\n RE-THINK CIRCULAR CLOTHING <\/h2>\n \n \n

CIRCULAR CLOTHING is a pioneer project and a platform for Swiss textile labels to collaborate on materials which are safe, healthy and circular. It provides access to a shared Cradle to Cradle\u00ae supply chain and a Cradle to Cradle Certified\u00ae certification.<\/p>\n

Small and medium sized labels face great challenges when it comes to sourcing circular materials. This is due to small production lots, limited human and financial resources and lack of information\u2019s.\t\t\t\t

We share our knowledge in the form of a practical toolbox with material samples, a guideline, workshops and lectures so that textile labels can better understand and meet the Cradle to Cradle Certified\u00ae requirements.<\/p>\n

Together, we form a network that builds the buying power to access suppliers providing the relevant materials and finishing technologies in affordable conditions.<\/p>\n

Our project focuses on five steps in the product life cycle and the final closing of the loop. Each of them has huge potential for change towards a circular textile system. We are hands-on: our USE CASE shows where challenges arise and which solutions are available.<\/p>\n

Step 4, “Use and reuse”, is about the extended use of the products. Here we focus on cooperation with existing rental and second-hand solutions as well as repair services.\u00a0 We are of the opinion that not every label has to create its own solution for this, but if you use a solution together, it can also assert itself with the end customer.<\/p>\n

In the last step, “back to the earth”, different approaches are possible. For the take-back system, sorting and composting of the clothes, we rely on cooperation with existing providers. There are no standards there yet and it is worthwhile to rely on existing solutions to provide the information about material composition to the sorter and recycler so that the discarded products can be transferred into cycles.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n \t\t\t\n\n\t\t\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

\n FOR A BETTER PLANET <\/h2>\n \n \n

The current fashion industry and, in particular, the fast-fashion sector, devours resources. It wears people out, poisons ecosystems and destroys the livelihoods of millions.<\/p>\n

As much as 60% of all clothes become waste within a year of their production, and 40% of all produced clothes are not even sold nor used*. This is a tremendous waste of resources. Additionally, many of the materials used in the industry are not safe for humans and the environment due to toxic and cancerous substances.\t\t\t\t

These challenges are pervasive in the fashion industry, and they are very real. For the sake of the planet we want to leave for future generations, we need to rethink how we design, make and use clothes.<\/p>\n

We envision a zero-waste textile industry, where existing resources are used in a continuous and closed loop. We want to stop the exploitation of the Earth and preserve our planet for future generations.<\/p>\n

\n USE CIRCULAR ECONOMY <\/h2>\n \n \n

Closing the loop means shifting from a linear to a circular system: from the current \u2018take, make, waste\u2019 model towards a closed-loop system or \u2018circular economy\u2019.<\/p>\n

The circular-economy approach for the textile industry aims to eliminate waste and stop the careless use of resources. From the start, garments are designed for reuse, sharing, repair, remanufacturing, recycling or composting to create a closed-loop system and minimise the use of resource inputs and the creation of waste, pollution, and carbon emissions. Currently, less than 1% of used clothing is recycled and reused for garments. *\t\t\t\t

We can take this approach one step further by following the biological or technical cycle of the Cradle to Cradle\u00ae model. In this model, valuable and proven solutions are used to design fully circular products: no toxins in, no toxins out.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, small textile labels face great difficulties in overcoming the hurdles on their way to becoming circular. So far, only some large companies with plenty of resources have been able achieve a certain degree of circularity. We will change this. By becoming a member of CIRCULAR CLOTHING, small Swiss textile labels can join a network for leveraging buying power. This access to a certified supply chain ensures the requirements to produce and design Cradle to Cradle Certified \u00ae products.<\/p>\n

Cradle to Cradle \u00ae Design<\/strong> defines and develops cyclable products. Compared to conventional recycling, the quality of the raw materials remains intact throughout multiple product lifecycles and, only fully safety-assessed chemicals are used. The products are developed according to the Cradle to Cradle\u00ae model in order to maintain the quality of the raw materials over multiple life cycles, taking into account the production processes, use and reutilisation.
